MathThird grade focuses on several mathematics skills throughout the year. We will be reviewing addition and subtraction (with regrouping) and moving on to multiplication and division by various means (arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, and number songs). We will continue this throughout the year and then move on to fractions (equal parts), geometry (naming and classifying shapes, lines, and angles). We will especially hone in on word problems and multi-step problems.

English Language Arts (ELA)English Language Arts is comprised of reading, writing, and comprehension of texts.
This year we are working on oral reading fluency, practicing core phonics skills, and daily vocabulary review. In the area of writing, we will be writing paragraphs to compare and contrast texts on the same topic, write paragraphs to with strong introductions, conclusions, and supporting details from the texts. Furthermore, we will go into depth of comprehension through summarizing and retell, using context clues to understand the overall theme, and breaking down the text into characters, setting, and plot. These are all key factors to help your children learn! |
Science/Social Studies
In science our main target is learning about the solar system. We focus in on the moon's phases, changes to Earth (seasons, cycles, rotations), and our place in the solar system, in the Milky Way Galaxy.
Our focus in social studies is on Native American tribes and their lifestyles. We discuss habitats, clothing, eating habits, cultural expression, and various other points of interest, in regard to the chosen tribes. |
